What to Wear

This section provides information on business professional and business casual attire for students in the MOL program.

Professional Business Attire


  • 2 Two-piece matched business suits:
    • Solid navy and dark gray
    • Wool or wool blend
    • Tailored trousers long enough to cover socks with a slight break over the shoes
    • Suit coats tailored with sleeve length showing 1/8" - 1/4" shirt sleeve
  • 3-4 Long sleeve dress shirts
    • Good quality, white cotton or cotton/polyester blends
    • Sleeve length should be long enough to show 1/8-1/4" past coats sleeve
    • Straight collar is more formal; button down collar less formal
    • Shirts should be professionally laundered
  • 3-4 Conservative stripe, print, or pattern neckties
    • Good quality silk; paired to match suits
  • 1 Black or cordovan leather dress belt
    • Should match dress shoes
  • Black, navy, or dark gray dress socks
    • Preferably knee socks
  • Black, cordovan, or dark brown leather lace-up dress shoes
    • Should be clean and well-polished
  • Jewelry kept conservative and at a minimum
    • Business appropriate or formal watch (leather, stainless steel, etc.), wedding, or class ring acceptable
  • Conservative work bag, briefcase, or portfolio and pen (alternative to casual/sporty backpack)


  • 2 Two-piece matched business suits:
    • Can be pant or skirt suits
    • Solid navy and dark gray
    • Wool or wool blend
    • Pants should be creased
    • Skirt should come to the top of the knee, knee, or just below the knee
    • Avoid high slits
  • 3-4 Tailored dress blouses, cotton, or cotton blends
    • White, light blue, cream, or pastel colors
    • Blouses should be professionally laundered
  • Leather dress shoes
    • Closed toe pumps
    • Heels should be one to three inches; no platforms or stiletto heels
    • Color should complement suits
  • Hosiery
    • Sheer is most conservative; nude or taupe are also acceptable
  • Accessories
    • The more subtle the better
    • Formal and matching jewelry kept at a minimum
  • Conservative work bag or portfolio (alternative to casual/sporty backpack or duffel)

Business Casual Attire


  • 1 Conservative sport jacket or navy blazer
  • 2-3 Long or short sleeve button down collar dress or sport shirts
    • Conservative stripes            
    • Cream, yellow, or blue oxford
  • Collared polo-type shirts for more casual, warm weather events
  • Crew-neck, v-neck, cardigan sweater or vest
  • 2-3 Dress or creased khaki slacks
  • Leather casual shoes
    • Slip-on or laced
    • Cordovan, brown, or black
    • No boat shoes or tennis shoes
  • Leather belt
    • Should match casual shoes


  • 2 Casual slacks, skirts, or dresses
    • Slacks should be tailored and creased
    • Skirts should be knee length
    • Cotton or wool; no denim
  • 2-3 Casual blouses or sweaters
    • Not too tight, see through, or low cut
  • Sleeveless dresses or tops should be accompanied by a cardigan or blazer for colder seasons or more conservative environments
    • Any top with a strap should be covered
  • Boots, loafers, low-heeled pumps
    • No flip-flops
  • Hosiery with skirts or dresses
    • Can go without in warm weather
    • Trouser socks or knee-high's with slacks
    • No fishnets

Both Men and Women

  • Down filled parka or wool outer coat
  • Wool sweaters or polyester fleece pullovers or zip-up jackets
  • Waterproof boots
